Frequently asked questions

What should I expect during my therapy session?

For your initial visit, we ask that you arrive about 15 minutes prior to you appointment. This will give time to review your paperwork and answer any questions you or the therapist may have, and together, define your personal treatment goals for your therapy session.

Your massage will be in a private and comfortable room. The massage table will be heated and covered with soft sheets and a blanket. Temperatures on the table can be adjusted, up or down, for comfort. At Hope Stone, we practice draping, which means we will only expose the area of the body being worked on while the rest of your body remains covered. Your therapist will discuss the session and processes before your timed begin your session.

I have heard massage can hurt. Should I expect pain?

To get the most benefit from your massage, you are encouraged to communicate how you are feeling and what you are experiencing during your session. The therapist will check-in with you regarding pressure and comfort. Massage should never hurt! A "hurt so good" feeling is okay but sharp, flinching pain is not. Everyone's body is different and pressure thresholds vary. If deeper massage techniques are needed for certain problem areas, the therapist will instruct you on best practice approaches to manage your needs.

Can I add Aromatherapy to my massage?

Yes! Aromatherapy is complementary to any massage. We will provide a list of available essential and natural oils you can select for your massage session.

***Disclaimer*** Essential and natural oils are not meant to take the place of any diagnosis or treatment by a qualified medical provider. We cannot give any expressed or implied guarantee as to the effects of essential oils nor any liability taken. Certain essential oils are contraindicated (should not be used) with certain diagnoses or pregnancy.

Do I have to undress for my massage?

No! If undressing is uncomfortable for you, we encourage you to undress to your level of comfort. Many massage techniques can be utilized for fully clothed individuals.

If there is a problem area that needs to be addressed specifically, and cannot be addressed easily while clothed, the therapist will provide information about the best practice approaches to manage these challenges.
